Monday Give-Away: UglyDolls

UPDATE:  Our winner is Jackie, who commented on our blog at 5:18pm! Jackie, please email kristin[at]pacifieronline.com so that we can ship you an UglyDoll of your choice. We also posted a message to you on Facebook - thanks for commenting there as well. Have a great week, everyone!

Before we opened the store 7 years ago, I was home sick in bed one day, feeling miserable. My husband came in with two UglyDolls - the original Tray and Target. They were still hand-stitched at the time and only sold at Giant Robot. It's corny to say, but they brought a smile to my face and made me feel better.

Since the above picture was taken, the UglyDoll family has grown a bit, as you can see here. But they're still not mass-marketed at the local big-box discount store, which is a probably good thing because my husband has a tattoo of Tray and Target holding hands. (His look of horror when I suggested the possibility of UglyDolls hitting the shelves of Wal-mart was priceless.)

If you've never heard of UglyDolls, the story of how the company got its start from the international love letters of a couple in a long-distance relationship is a sweet one.

What was a memorable gift you've received in the past? Tell us below and we'll enter you in a drawing to win a 14" UglyDoll of your choice! As always, increase your chances by entering on Facebook, too! Winner will be announced on Tuesday.

My mom passed 4 years before I had my b/g twins. At the time I was so single but she must of had a great deal of hope...my dad came to visit after the twins were born and gave me a present my mom had put together before she died. Inside were 2 beautiful outfits for a boy AND a girl plus a hand-knit blankie. It was so special and thoughtful for her to think of this as she was dying of cancer and the fact that she included both a boy and a girl outfit makes you wonder...

My husband blew me away this year, he gave me new running shoes and a MacBook.!! I told him not to get me anything or just use the money on the 3 kids. He is so generous and takes such good care of the family:)

My mom had saved some of the clothes I had worn when I was a baby and little girl. After my daughter was born she gave me the baby clothes and then when she got a little older the toddler and little girl clothes. It is so neat to have pictures of both myself and now her in these outfits.

My now-husband gave me a beautiful necklace early in our dating, and that thoughtfulness and his choice of just the right one for me was really special.

From the mouth of my 4-year-old...the most memorable gift he got this year was for Xmas...Santa sent him an ANGRY BIRD (yes, he loves the iPhone app at much as his daddy does)...the red one. Now ANGRY BIRD goes with him to preschool every day and is his favorite snuggle buddy.

My husband surprised me out of the blue with a gold diamond necklace. It wasn't a holiday or my birthaday. He insisted that we went out to eat, and when the salad came, it was presented with a tiny box in the middle. He had given it to the kitchen to bring out. It was so sweet of him. He had seen it after I had mentioned it to him, and he went out and bought it for me. I really thought it was out of our budget, so never thought he would go look at it, let alone buy it. He's a keeper.

A big russian doll from my childhood that my parents found and gave me when my baby was born (they'd brought it with us from russia). It was bigger than him then, now he knocks it around happily. I was so touched they found it... sigh.

one of my most memorable gifts was when I was a teenager. My dad suprised me with roses on Sweetest Day, a day I had never heard of before that. He made me feel SOOO special, I think of that EVERY september when it rolls around (hallmark holiday or not, the gesture was purely loving)

Last year, my daughter broke her arm for the 5th time. To make her smile I bought her her first UGLY doll and put a blue cast on it's arm...just like hers. I think her UGLY doll needs a friend. Especially since she got her 6th broken arm this past Christmas. P.S. She is a very active child. :)

My husband gave me this snowman figurine last Christmas when I was pregnant of a baby snowman and a mommy, that said "Love you" - for some reason I thought it was so cute and cried when he gave it to me!! Maybe pregnancy hormones, but it always makes me remember that time in my life. :)

The Elton John "Caribou" record 3 years ago from my husband - lol!! The cover is priceless, and he got it for me out of a discount bin at the Electric Fetus because he knew I liked Sir Elton. :) Love him! (hubby, that is!)

My mom died when my son was 6 weeks old...
She left him her flute that she had played
as a girl in marching band and that I had played
in grade school. She also left him a blanket
she had bought when we took a trip before she
passed. He sleeps with it every night.

After hearing about our grandfather's death, I headed to my parents' house. My sister had arrived earlier than me and had a hot mocha from my favorite coffee shop waiting for me. She died a year later and now it reminds me of her whenever I order a mocha.

One of my favorite gifts was a Cabbage Patch Kid when I was about 8 years old. They were THE hot toy for Christmas and hard to come by. The greatest part about the gift is the story - my mother and grandmother got up at 5 a.m. to wait in line in the cold dark parking lot at the one store in town that was getting a shipment. The store only had 50, and allowed people in one at a time every couple minutes to check out the row of dolls. My younger sister and I each got the one we wanted - a baby boy for me and a baby girl for her. The presents were the last ones we opened, hidden behind the Christmas tree and we were so excited. I have always admired the UglyDolls and would love to give one of my young cousins one like the bat for her upcoming birthday! Giveaways are so cool!

Beautiful Tea dress given to us by a friend in a green Pacifier box. LOVE it...not sure the style name, but it's recent, grey and white and gorgeous. By babe looks beyond adorable in it and it game with her first mini ugly doll too!

My little sister hand-stitched a "pillow" for my barbie dolls when she was about 5. It was the sweetest thing and I loved it until it disintegrated!

My best gift ever was when I was 7 years old and I got a Chatty Cathy doll. She and I were best friends for years to come. I would so love to be a lucky winner of an UglyDoll to share with my grandson. Thanks for this awesome giveaway!
