When I was 6, we moved to a small town in Hungary with my parents and sisters. As we arrived we found a pile of books the previous owner left for us. One of them was a book about a lonely little boy, who is very scared of everything. He loves looking at pictures of lions and the next day when he wakes up there is a small lion in his bedroom. With the help of the lion he becomes strong and brave and is able to finally make friends. When I read the book 26 years ago, I immediately identified with the character, since I was also worried about making friends at the new school. I read the book until it was in pieces. A few years ago I found the same book at a bookstore and bought it thinking that if I have a child I would someday read it to them. Today I read it every day to my daughter who is in love with it just as I was. The book's title is 'Laci and the Lion'; I wish it was translated to English - it is such a treasure!!!

One of my favorite childhood books was a Sci-Fi title: The Head of Dr. Doyle. There was a heavy political content, but at 8y/o that was a bit over my head. Was very fascinated by the main story line - the head of a brilliant scientist kept alive & able to think & speak for many months after the body was dead.
